Pantone Color Guide for Custom Products

Table of Contents

Many customers who are ordering custom badges, commemorative coins, and other products for the first time may not be able to describe colors precisely. This is especially important for brands that need to reproduce their brand logo, corporate colors, or event colors, where consistent colors are needed. To avoid color differences and help customers reduce communication time, this article will explain the meaning, importance, and use of Pantone color cards, with some matching examples to help you understand color card basics.

What Is a Pantone Color Card?

A Pantone color card is a standardized physical color reference system. Each color has a corresponding number and physical color sample. Designers, customers, and manufacturers can use the same Pantone color code to confirm the target color instead of relying only on colors displayed on a computer or phone screen. When customizing badges, commemorative coins, medals, and other products, Pantone color codes can be used as a color reference to help manufacturers match the colors specified by customers more accurately.

Why Is It Recommended to Use Pantone Color Cards for Custom Products?

First, they can help customers and manufacturers confirm colors more accurately.

For example, you may want to use a dark blue for your badge, but everyone may have a different understanding of what “dark blue” means. These vague descriptions can easily lead to color differences, causing customers to wonder after receiving their custom badges: Why does the color of the finished product look different from the design? Providing the corresponding Pantone color code directly can reduce back-and-forth communication and differences in color understanding.

Second, Pantone color codes can be used as a color reference between design and production. Designers can determine the colors during the design stage, and the manufacturer can use the specified color codes for color matching during production. This is especially important for projects such as brand badges, corporate logos, and event commemorative products that need to maintain consistent colors.

How to Use Pantone Color Cards for Design?

First, determine the main colors in your design.

After you have determined the colors in your initial design, you can purchase a physical color card from a store or find a complete Pantone color sample online. Our website also provides a digital color chart for your reference. Click Color Chart to view it. However, since colors may appear slightly different on different screens, we recommend using a physical Pantone color card for comparison.

Once you find the color closest to the one you need, record the corresponding Pantone color code and mark the color code on your design. When communicating with the manufacturer, you can directly tell them which Pantone color should be used for a specific area.

In addition, Pantone color codes are mainly used for color communication and matching and cannot completely predict how the final product will look. We recommend confirming the sample before starting mass production.

What If I Don't Have a Pantone Color Card?

A Pantone color card is only a color reference tool. It is especially recommended for brands and companies that require a high level of color consistency, but it is not necessary.
With so many Pantone colors available, choosing the right one can sometimes be confusing.

If your color requirements are not particularly strict and you care more about the actual finished effect, you can still customize your products without a Pantone color card.

If you want to customize a product but don't have a design either, don't worry. Maxemblem provides free design services. You can tell our designers your requirements directly, and we can provide a design within 24 hours. Before production, we will also send you sample images for confirmation before starting mass production, helping bring your ideas to life as closely as possible.
